Introduction/Pécs

According to Hungarians, Pécs is the city with the most unique atmosphere in the country. Here in Pécs, we are proud of our UNESCO Cultural World Heritage from Romain times; our buildings originating from the Turkish era; Hungary’s first and even today largest university; our houses ornamented with precious building ceramics by Zsolnay Porcelain Factory; and those more than 300 contemporary artists who live and work in our city. We are loving our ’home hill’, the Mecsek, that we owe our Sub-Mediterranean climate and our remarkable wines to. We take a special pleasure in walking along the narrow alleys of the inner city, and drinking a cup of coffee or wine with our friends on romantic squares and terraces, and it would be a great pleasure to share all those fantastic programmes that make Pécs the Capital of Europe 2010, with you!
